Who we are, and who we are not
Recover Your Docs is a document preparation and filing service. We prepare required government filings from the information you give us and submit them on your behalf. We are not a law firm, we are not licensed attorneys, and nothing on this site or in our emails is legal advice. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), the U.S. Department of Transportation, or any state's Secretary of State. You can always file directly with those agencies yourself, usually for the agency's own fee alone.
What we deliver
MCS-150 biennial update ($149 flat). We take the carrier information from FMCSA's public census record, confirm it with you, collect the fields FMCSA requires that aren't public, and prepare the complete filing data. FMCSA only accepts the update through its Motus system, and only from the carrier or someone the carrier has authorized there. Once you authorize us as your Transportation Service Provider in Motus, we submit the biennial update on your behalf and email you when it's confirmed. Until you authorize us, we cannot submit it; you receive the prepared filing summary and step-by-step instructions, and we follow up to help you finish the authorization.
FMCSA/Motus membership ($49.99 per year, optional). With your Motus authorization in place, we track your next biennial deadline and submit the update when it's due, submit mid-cycle amendments you ask for, and answer your questions by phone or email. It renews yearly and you can cancel at any time.
Business entity reinstatement or dissolution ($149 flat, plus the state's filing fee). We prepare the required filing from what you confirm with us, submit it to your state's Secretary of State on your behalf, pay the state's fee from the amount you paid us, and forward the state's confirmation and stamped copy to you. Where a state requires an original signature, we prepare the exact official form for you to sign and send.
State and agency fees
Government filing fees belong to the government. We show them separately at checkout and pass them through at cost, with no markup. Once a fee has been paid to the agency it cannot be recovered by us or refunded to you. Fees shown for states other than those we have verified are the state's published figures as of the date shown; if the agency's actual fee differs, we'll tell you before submitting and either collect the difference or refund it.
Your responsibilities
- Everything you enter must be accurate and complete. We prepare filings from your answers; we can't verify them against records we don't have.
- You must be authorized to act for the carrier or entity. When you type your name to authorize us, that authorization is yours, and you're certifying you have the authority to give it.
- The certification on a government form is your certification. You are the one attesting to the agency that the information is true. A false certification is a violation of state law; responsibility for it is yours alone, and we will provide our records of the request (name, role, signature, time, IP address, payment details) to the entity, the state, or law enforcement on request.
- Before we file any dissolution, we send a notice of the request to the entity's address of record with the state and wait at least 48 hours. If someone at that address tells us the request wasn't authorized, the filing stops until the matter is resolved. This safeguard is part of the service and cannot be waived.
- Some steps only you can do: verifying your identity with FMCSA, authorizing us in Motus, signing an original where the state requires it, or providing member consents. If those steps aren't completed, the filing can't be finished.
Timelines
We begin preparing your filing when you pay and usually submit within one business day of having everything we need. Processing after submission is up to the agency, and their times vary from minutes to weeks. We report each status change to you by email as it happens.
Refunds
Our refund policy is published at /refund.html and is part of these terms.
Limits on our liability
Our total liability for any order, on any theory, is capped at the amount you paid us for that order, excluding government fees. We are not liable for penalties, lost revenue, deactivation, or other consequences that arise from information you provided, steps only you could complete, or the agency's own processing decisions or delays. Nothing here limits liability that can't be limited by law.
Email and communications
By placing an order or requesting a callback you agree to receive emails and calls about it. Marketing emails carry an unsubscribe link; transactional emails about an order you paid for do not, because they're the record of your order.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Dallas County, Texas.
Changes
We may update these terms. The version in force for your order is the one posted when you placed it.
